Austin Hope Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

$49.99

97 point new release                                               A fantastic new Cabernet from Paso Robles! 97 Points Wine Enthusiast: "Vintner Austin Hope, whose family is intertwined in the rise of Paso Robles, spent years working to release a wine of this caliber. Dark and thick in the glass, aromas of black currant and blueberry meet with roasted coffee, chocolate syrup and baked plum on the wondrous nose. The palate is soft and extremely expressive, with blueberry, black pepper, firm midpalate tannins and a finish that’s redolent of cappuccino candies." Austin Hope Cabernet Sauvignon stems from an endless fascination with the soils and diverse sub-regions of Paso Robles, where exceptional wines are being made. It also tells the story of the Hope family’s long history in the region and how their pride and knowledge can be brought to life in a bottle of wine. Deep ruby in color, the 2015 Austin Hope Cabernet Sauvignon expresses intense fragrances of black currants, ripe black cherries and blackberries with subtle notes of violets, mocha and dried spices. It’s a big, powerful, modern-styled wine with velvety tannins and heaps of juicy blackberry and cherry fruit, while nuances of cedar, clove and vanilla bean round out the long, smooth finish. It’s full bodied, rich and balanced by fresh acidity with a firm, polished tannin structure.

Delicious Cabernet Sauvignon from Paso Robles. Would love to see how this progresses with age. Deep ruby red. Lots of caramel, anise, baking spices and dark cherries on the nose. Medium tannins (6/10) and medium to medium plus bodied. Well integrated with alcohol you can feel but not over the top. Rich palate with notes of cinnamon, brown sugar, dark berries, and cherries. Long finish. Drink till 2026.

1978 Chuck Hope left his beverage job, moved to Paso Robles, became a farmer, & top grape grower. Working with his father, Austin led family into winemaking in ‘95, creating his label in 2000. Grapes from 5 small blocks in AVAs of Paso Robles, aged in 75% new French oak, 18 mos. Dark Ruby, aromas of sweet ripe black fruits & dried smoky spices. Flavors of ripe blackberry, sweet cacao, espresso & vanilla oak. Big wine, fine tannins that needed 45 minutes, lingering fruit finish. The 15% ABV, not an issue. Nice!

Beautiful red. She opened up slowly and then beckoned with her fragrance, deep, dark color tones and assertive character. She needs time...5 years; maybe 10 to come into her own. She answers to “The masses of men...” H.D. Thoreau. This is a wine to dance with, and maybe go home with.

Much hype around this stuff, so we had to dip our toes in the water... Wifey likes it, and I do, too. It’s an extravagant, full-throttle Cali example, which, in my view, is best enjoyed over the next year.

Same as usual. I was able to speak with the winemaker yesterday to confirm my suspicions. And it turned out to be what I thought, a blend of 5 different vineyards of Cabernet (2 eastside and 3 westside) so it’s a meritage if efforts.
