Limited new Pinot release from one of California's top producers Aubert. 95 Points Robert Parker: "Medium to deep ruby-purple colored, the 2017 Pinot Noir UV-SL Vineyard gives gorgeous black cherries, pomegranate, fresh blackberries and wild blueberries scents with suggestions of licorice, potpourri, chocolate tart and clove with a touch of dried Provence herbs. The palate is full-bodied with a rock-solid frame of grainy tannins and oodles of freshness supporting the flamboyant black and blue fruits, finishing with an exciting herbal lift."

WNH Sonoma Coast Pinot tasting. I decanted this for almost two hours, consumed half, and then sealed and came back to it two days later. Strawberry everything, for the most part. Strawberry preserves topped with some black pepper, sage, lots of floral notes, and currant. Acidity is really nice on the palate, with a lifted profile yet rich. Not full on kirsch, but some added ripe black raspberries, plum, and herbal spice toward the finish. When I came back to this a few days later, it was much more expressive and had just a kiss of orange zest. Obviously young, but fun to try. I’d hold another 3+yrs, or decant for a couple hours.

One thing Aubert wines have in common is that they are all very different. This pinot is relatively extracted, and it shows on the nose and palate. Notes of red currants, cedar and flowers on the nose. Tannins are prominent and provide texture. Perfect balance and long sweet finish make this a textbook pinot. This will cellar for many years to come.

Love his Chards, though never smitten by the Pinots. Lacks complexity in the mid palette. Solid, but underperforms expectations and QPR.
