Limited new release from cult Chardonnay producer Mark Aubert.94 Points Robert Parker: "The 2013 Chardonnay UV-SL is made from two selections of Old Wente Chardonnay clones planted in classic Goldridge sandy soils. It exhibits the same greenish hue as its siblings, but is slightly more restrained and subdued. Notes of white currants, quince, poached pears, wet rocks and loamy soil nuances emerge from this terroir-driven Chardonnay. Drink 2015-2014......Mark Aubert is one of the contenders for California’s finest practitioner of Burgundian-styled, yet classic, California Chardonnays. His offerings are all made like grand cru Burgundies with full malolactic, the use of French oak and lees stirring, but the purity of fruit, the textural dimensions, and the stunning singularity of these Chardonnays can only be matched by a handful of other Chardonnay producers in the world. He’s that good. Aubert’s 2012s, which I have enjoyed multiple times out of bottle since I purchased most of them, merit the scores I gave them last year."

Enjoyed with John and Noelle. Lovely bright lemony citrus, medium bodied. Delightful acid, well balanced. Paired with spicy garlic shrimp and lobster spaghetti. Delish!

13’ Aubert UV-SL Chardonnay. Needs 30 minutes in the glass. Medium + bodied. It exhibits aromas of Pear, mango, pineapple, baked apple & subtle background spiced wood(age). A mix of tropical fruit, salinity, moderate acidity finish to it. Very balanced. Drink these up in the next 2/3 years. Has the ability to age another 5+. Cheers! Edit- Personally this is about as old as I like drinking my Aubert Chardonnay’s. Double Edit- Until this one.

Impromptu meet up at Classic! Having a relaxing Friday afternoon with good friends and good wine makes for a perfect start to a weekend! This is in a really good window. Smoking right now. It starts a bit lean, but gains some heft while still remaining fairly light. Marzipan, melon and smoked pear on the nose. Near perfect on the palate for me...supremely balanced. Acidity is sharp but not overt. Honeyed almonds, baked brioche and hazelnut.
