Limited new release from cult Chardonnay producer Mark Aubert.100 Points Robert Parker: "The 2013 Chardonnay East Side comes from a vineyard owned by Ulises Valdez and planted with the Montrachet clone. It is the rockiest site in the Aubert portfolio. Amazingly, it sees 100% new oak, but you would never know that from smelling or tasting the wine. Copious aromas of wet rocks, almond paste, honeysuckle, pineapple and white peach are followed by a full-bodied, stunningly rich yet crisp, vibrant, zesty Chardonnay that should drink well for a minimum of 10 years......Mark Aubert is one of the contenders for California’s finest practitioner of Burgundian-styled, yet classic, California Chardonnays. His offerings are all made like grand cru Burgundies with full malolactic, the use of French oak and lees stirring, but the purity of fruit, the textural dimensions, and the stunning singularity of these Chardonnays can only be matched by a handful of other Chardonnay producers in the world.. Mark Aubert previously worked at Peter Michael, where he apprenticed under his most famous mentor, Helen Turley, followed by stints at Colgin and Futo, two very high-end cult Cabernet Sauvignon producers. His Chardonnays have become enormously popular and sell out as quickly as they become available to consumers. The 2013 Chardonnays are going to be as extraordinary in quality. Aubert uses high percentages of new French oak in the upbringing for his Chardonnays, but you would never know that when tasting. These wines- are all simply remarkable."

Probably the best Aubert Chard I have ever had. The way it evolved and the balance between oak, acid, fruit, and mineral was special. Toward the end of the night it was leaning into a grand cru Burgundy. It was new world, but had those leanings. A special wine for sure.

My first '13 Aubert chard and it's open for business, less sweet than the recent SVD's I've had from Aubert in recent years and that's a very good sign. Bright and refreshing, field flowers, white peach skin.

An outstanding wine, as per usual with Aubert Chardonnays. Beautiful bouquet and light gold color. Sensational minerality, bright and citrusy. Tasting lemon peel, pineapple, butter, apricot, and a hint of mint, vanilla, butterscotch, and brioche.

Still super bright and citrusy even with the bottle age. The acidity really cuts through food. Very refreshing. This could continue to develop for another 5 years easily. I bet it will still be phenomenal in another decade.

This wine is right at the top of the hill and ready to kick some butt. Perfectly balanced, rounded edges, stoneground fruit nose and front. Much more minerality here, some butter but the "buttah score" is probably 2/10 on this wine. The middle is rather dense, rich, full. Slightly underripe mango. Finished with a nice stone ground minerality. What a perfectly weighted chard!! Best white wine of the night without question, although a 2012 Condrieu Viognier seemed like it was 'on deck' as I was leaving therefore this one could have outdone this one, but if it did, it couldn't have been a runaway difference. This one has 5-7 years additional, so the 2015-2023 drink window suggested by CT is rather solid and right on the money.
