Aubert CIX Sonoma Coast Chardonnay 2016

$199.99

100 points - limited                    Limited new release from cult Chardonnay producer Mark Aubert. 100 Points Robert Parker: "The 2016 Chardonnay CIX Estate is beguiling in its complexity and singularity, offering up scents of smoked nuts, waxed lemons, crushed rocks and coriander seed with hints of crusty bread, honeysuckle, baked peaches and clover honey. Full-bodied, full-on creamy and densely laden with layers of citrus and savory flavors, it has just enough freshness and wonderful length." ...Mark Aubert continues to set the bar incredibly high for the world-class quality of his Burgundian-styled, remarkable Chardonnays, which come from relatively cool sites spread from Rutherford in Napa Valley to the far reaches of the Sonoma Coast. As I indicated last year, Aubert is at the top of his game, and it is hard to believe any Chardonnay winemaker in the world is turning out a half-dozen Chardonnays at this qualitative level year in and year out. He has had an incredible run of great success, after being mentored by none other than the reclusive and supremely talented Helen Turley when he took over the winemaking job at Peter Michael, then proceeded on to impressive sojourns at Colgin Estate as well as Tom Futo’s winery in Oakville."

Rich, voluptuous and powerhouse of aromas. Benefits from a decant if you can give it one...around 30-45mins at this stage. Light golden in the glass offering up notes of lemon cream, sea salt, honey roasted cashews, honeysuckle and baked lemon scone. It’s viscous on the palate cascading all over, and while big, there is a line of acidity that is picked up from entry and maintains all the way through the finish...not sure if I’d call it “mineral” like, but it helps give complexity and add balance. Honeyed clover, more sea salt, lemon meringue pie too. So lush with a lingering finish. Everything about this screams Aubert and even when young, these are just superb Cali Chards.

I agree with Shay’s review. Lemon curds, baked peaches, honeysuckle, butter, caramel, and fresh grass. Sweet and powerful, more so, I think, than most Auberts. I am still partial to Aubert’s Lauren and UV-SL, but this is delicious.

1/2 hour decant. A majestic medium hazy gold color. On the nose: lemon, butterscotch, white peach, oyster shells. Taste: creamy, smooth, rich wine with layered flavors of lemon, apricot, slight pineapple, white pepper, and a metallic minerally lime dry finish. YUM!

Grilled crab legs + Aubert, a perfect pairing. This bottle is ready to go. Lemon curd with slight verve; sea breeze; almonds; triple cream Brie; creamy.

What does one say about Aubert. If you love it, you love it. And I do. Still ranks as one of the best Chardonnay labels in California and much cheaper than its peers.

Again, from a few days ago. It’s real, and it’s spectacular.

Cabernet night with the guys. Started with a few whites. This is a baby and opened too young IMO. This will Garner a higher rating in a couple of years.
