Aperture Del Rio Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

$149.99

Fantastic new discovery!                 Limited new Cabernet from Aperture. a great up-and-coming label from Sonoma's Alexander Valley. 95+ Robert Parker: "Made with 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged in 50% new oak, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Del Rio Vineyard opens with luscious aromas of molten chocolate, Morello cherries, cedar, beef drippings, cassis, black plum and floral notes with hints of red cherries and graphite. Full-bodied, lush and intensely fruited in the mouth, it has a firm frame of very finely grained tannins and great freshness to counter, finishing very long and layered. This has all the stuffing, acidity and tannic structure to be very long lived. 250 cases were made." 95 Points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Del Rio Vineyard is based on 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from a site in the Alexander Valley and spent 20 months in 70% new French oak. Its saturated ruby color is followed by a complex perfume of blackcurrants, green tobacco, cedarwood, and lead pencil notes. It's rich, full-bodied, opulent beauty that has tons of sweet fruit, silky tannins, and a forward, classic California style. Drink it over the coming 10-15 years. Sharply-etched black fruit and rustic tannins give this wine a beefy feeling. Not as generous as the Oliver Ranch bottling, it still has great depth and presence. Cassis, black cherry, leather, cedar and a bit of anise in the background.

Pours dark dark dark ruby. Still smells young - would give this 5-10 more years. I smell cocoa, stewed black plums, cedar, eucalyptus? Strong acid for a cab, medium tannins, chewy, a little gritty.

Local celebrity of a wine. A strange smell that leads you away from believing it's Cabernet Sauvignon... Baby's breath, honey florals, pleasant but disconcerting... if you're into 'new things' try it out.
