Altamura Napa Valley Sangiovese 2010

$45

Altamura makes perhaps the finest Sangiovese in California and if you are new to the varietal it will please even the most die-hard fans of Cabernet, Syrah or Zinfandel. 94 Points Robert Parker:  "The Altamura Sangiovese shows plenty of varietal character in its expressive red cherries, licorice and tobacco but with Napa Valley warmth and shape. The wine’s volume and depth should allow it to drink beautifully for a number of years. This is an impressive California Sangiovese, something I can’t say too often...This is an interesting, still somewhat under-the-radar, small producer with all dry-farmed vineyards and obviously impeccable winemaking." Brix26 Inside Scoop:   Altamura is well-known as one of Napa Valley's finest producers of Cabernet Sauvignon, but we think the Sangiovese is the sleeper. Try this small-proiduction wine while its available.

Second Napa Sangiovese of the day and it was lovely. Not Italian but a nice American version of the real deal

Prunes and molasses. Interesting to taste a Sangiovese grown outside of Italy.

Now this one I loved. Had it again today and it was even better than yesterday.

2010-aerated, perhaps better to decant, great legs; complex bouquet worth revisiting before energy sip, great body, long with a slightly sweet finish; our "go to" Sangiovese.

Fruit forward and lovely. Paired perfectly with the Italian fare.
