Alban Vineyards Reva Alban Estate Vineyard Syrah 2013

$149.99

97 Points Parker - limited                                          Alban's rare Reva Syrah now available. Limited. 97 Points Robert Parker:  "The 2013 Syrah Reva Alban Estate Vineyard is the largest production Syrah of the three vineyard designates. It's another beautiful looking 2013 that has tons of upfront appeal, full-bodied richness, incredible purity and a building, yet sweet, sweet tannin. It picks up more and more smoked meat characteristics with time in the glass, and like all of John's 2013s, will offer tons of pleasure in its youth, yet also evolve gracefully." Self-professed Rhone Ranger and a true American pioneer for putting high quality Rhone varietal wines on the USA wine map, John Alban knocks it out of the park with his recent releases. Most of the big guns here come from the impressive, iron-fist-in-a-velvet-glove 2013 vintage. While the Alban Vineyards wines are never shrinking violets, for sure, what I love is the compelling savory accents that the 2013 reds possess, providing incredibly provocative restraint and depth that will keep fans wondering where their glass went and reaching for another. Enjoy!

Dark purple in color with a wide reddish rim. Fruity nose with lots of black fruits, cedar and chocolate notes. Full bodied with medium acidity and long legs. Dry and very fruity on the palate with nice complexity. Showing blackberries, cooked plums, cedar, tobacco, vanilla, dried fruits, light earth, barnyard, light vegetables, herbs, chocolates, espresso, cola and black pepper. Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries. This is a delicious Syrah from Edna Valley in California. Showing nice complexity and elegance, with a soft mouthfeel. This Syrah from the great 2013 vintage is drinking beautifully now. A great sipping wine to have all by itself. 15.5% alcohol by volume. 92 points. $130.

Deep purple in the glass. Perfumed nose of blueberry, smoked meat, cracked pepper, and black olive. Very rich and full bodied on the palate with concentrated brambly fruit, prominent, fine grained tannins, and a whopping 15.5% alcohol which surprisingly does not come across as at all hot. Made from 100% Syrah from Alban’s estate vineyard, this bottling is named after his mother Reva. It’s drinking well now and has a long life ahead of it. $100.

Pop and pour at Luce in San Francisco. A majestic dark ruby red color. On the nose: bursting from the glass are beautiful notes of plum, stewed meat, cedar, some black raspberry, smoke, floral. Taste: smooth, rich, juicy wine with dark fruit, worn leather, meaty, bitter chocolate, and a spiced graphite long finish. YUM! A day before fire up for the Kevin Hart show in SF. Cheers!

Inky purple color, intense blackcurrant and blackberry nose carries through to the palate with some licorice around the edges and a very long aromatic blackcurrant finish. Slightly hot alcohol middle but I’m sure this will change with a few more years in the cellar.
