Brand new Syrah release from John Alban - limited. previous vintage 93 Points Robert Parker: "The Syrah Patrina offers full-bodied richness and depth, lots of dark fruits, cassis, licorice and graphite, perfect ripeness and a polished, elegant personality. Shining for its purity, it's ready to go and will shine on release...I had a great visit with John Alban, whose estate is located at the southern end of the Edna Valley and in one of the coolest AVAs in California. Despite this, he makes some of the most concentrated, rich and age-worthy reds and whites from the entire state." Brix26 Inside Scoop: Intermittently, Alban Vineyards produced a 'Central Coast Syrah' which was never predictable in either when it was made or its quantity but was always tremendously popular. With each sporadic release, it became undeniable that lots of people wanted this wine. Likewise, it became painfully clear to Alban that without control of the vineyards from which this wine would derive, nothing about it would ever be reliable. In 2005, Alban discontinued purchasing grapes for the Central Coast Syrah to develop his own vineyards and the 'Patrina' Syrah was born.

Medium bodied, hints of fruit. One of the original Rhône producers in CA.

Nose is fermented blackberries. The palate is blackberry run through a siv of crushed granite. Some earthy tones of forest floor and mushroom. Tannins still working themselves out and medium plus acidity. Alban is one of my favorites. This is no exception
