Inky in color with a short reddish rim. Full-bodied and bold with medium acidity. Dry on the palate with nice complexity. Showing black plums, cooked cherries, cedar, black currants, tobacco leaf, earth, light vegetables, cola, pencil lead, peppercorn and herbs. Long finish with soft tannins and cherries. This is a delicious Cabernet Sauvignon based Bordeaux blend from Chile. Rich and extracted. Showing nice balance and mouthfeel. Needs an hour to open up properly, and will continue to age nicely in the next 5 to 7 years. Wine Advocate 94 points. Wine Spectator 92 points. Fruit forward and a good sipping wine. Will also pair nicely with a big piece of steak. A blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Carmenere and 5% Merlot. Aged in (10% new) French Oak barrels for 12 months. 15% alcohol by volume. 92 points. $75.

You is nominally the second wine from Almaviva - it’s less expensive, made from younger vines on the property 5-20 years old) and picked a bit earlier to preserve acidity. It may be a second wine but it’s delicious - creamy texture with ripe, velvet tannins and enough acidity to balance the lovely fruit- black cherry, cassis, violet (fresh and dried), blackberry, mocha, cedar and tobacco leaf. Long finish and surprisingly accessible at this point in its evolution. I’d order it again in a heartbeat.
