A beautiful example of restrained oak allowing pristine fruit to shine through. Here is crisp acidity without harshness, and bright lemon and apple fruit with just a hint of spice from the oak. A vibrant wine in the fashion of Burgundy rather than the typical Napa oak bomb. No need for oak's heavy hand to disguise flaws in the fruit - there aren't any. I had it with cedar-planked salmon and it was a gorgeous match

Stags Leap Manor, as it was called in the 1920s, was known as one of the prominent country retreats in the Napa Valley at a time when resort and spa business was big. Straw yellow, with stone fruit and citrus aromas and toasty notes. On the palate melon, pineapple and pear, fresh & crisp with notes of smoky oak, a bit creamy. Lingering finish with wet stone and minerality character, well balanced, stays crisp on ending. Nice!

My wife grew up going to Babe’s, and so when we were up in the DFW area we had to visit one of their locations in Arlington. Thankfully it’s BYOB, so I got to swing by Winslow’s Wine Cellar and grab a chilled bottle of Chard for copious amounts of family-style sides and fried chicken.

This was really enjoyable: restrained dignified Burgundian style with subtle smoky spicy oak, red delicious apples, lemon curd, other citrus along with consistent yet fleeting glimpses of tropical fruit. Great density of flavor but I’d say only medium bodied w/balanced acidity carrying thru impressive finish.

Impressive. Light gold color with notes of straw, flint and lychee over primary aromas of fresh-baked golden apples. Similar on the palate, with excellent balance. Just perfect. Oak is present and supportive, but not overbearing, and the acidity is absolutely mouthwateringly awesome. I will soon be raiding the stock at the local Costco. Christophe Paubert deserves recogniton for this beauty.

Apple and pear notes. Paired well with a béchamel lasagna. Not overly oaked. Delicious.
