Prapò may not be particularly well known but its location in Serralunga d’Alba, directly below Cerretta, should be a good indication of its quality and potential. That being said, there are only a half dozen producers making Prapò today. Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of several hours. The 2020 pours a deep garnet color with a transparent core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with a mix of tart and ripe, predominately red fruits: raspberries, Maraschino cherries, strawberry, along with whole peaches, roses, green herbs, stony minerals. On the palate, the wine is dry with high tannin and medium+ acid. The orchard peach character shows a bit more prominently here while the rest of the palate seems a bit taciturn, maybe even austere. The finish is medium+. Quite a treat, if not a touch cerebral. Drink now with patience through 2040.
