Wanted to see what a JS 100 point wine was like (in my price range.) It was a fine selection and very interesting and enjoyable. I recommend it to satisfy any curiosity about Don Melchor and Chilean Cabernet in general. It’s definitely sophisticated and nuanced. Enjoyed with aged NY Strip and family here in northern CT after a day of trout fishing in the Twin Lakes. 19” brown trout caught by my son will be on tomorrow’s menu. Cheers!

On the nose; dark currants, light tarry notes, blackberry, black raspberries, black plum, plum, black cherries, black licorice, stones, dry loamy soil, dark rich earth, cinnamon, vanilla, dark fresh flowers and fields of violets. The body is full. The palate; rich, ripe & fresh. Tannins are round, velvety, soften some but still very big & pronounced. The structure & tension are very solid, the length fantastic &well balance. Fruits are; blackberry, black raspberries, black plum, plum, black cherries, creamy raspberries, black licorice, sweet tarry character, soft leather, fresh tobacco leaf, graphite, stones, dry loamy soil, bramble, dark rich earth, cinnamon, vanilla, dark fresh flowers and fields of violets. The acidity round and well executed. The long finish is ruby fruit balanced earth, sticky tannins and beautiful polished finish. Still fresh and wonderful now but much better in 15+ years. 2015 was a very good year Puente Alto. This could very likely see a higher score after 8-10 years more of bottle ago. Photos of; the old residence, another stone art piece in one of their main tasting areas, Cabernet vines meant for visitor tasting this time of year and the Diablo barrel room where the Don Melchor Cabernet is stored. The barrel room was once robbed long ago. Since the Urban Legend story it was haunted was floated out to the public, it has remained safe and sound.

Excellent wine competes with the best from France and napa. With a better price range. Loved it. Normally my birthday wine.

Gift from David and Janis, Dec 2019. Enjoyed with David March 1, 2022. 92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cab Franc, 1% Petit Verdot. Black fruit, smoke, tobacco. Smooth, well integrated tannins. Just a lovely wine. Drinking beautifully now. Could probably cellar another 10 years, but why?

I normally do not like a Cab that’s not blended with something but this is a special one indeed with bold fruit forward and unassuming cherry that floats all over the top.

Super funky nose on open. Blew off after about 10 min. Orange pekoe tea and chocolate scents. Lithe Raspberry, pomegranate, leather and spice mid-palate. Some red fruit and graphite on the finish.

Over the last few months, I’ve been guilty of only tasting & consuming Italian

It’s a fantastic old world style cab. Savory in profile, it hits you with notes of herbs, violets, and some green pepper, with blackberries underneath. Linear on the palate with a silky texture that finishes with nice chocolate and clove notes. A gem, and a complex wine.

Really enjoyable Cab. Drinks like a big, bold Napa Cab. Was very surprised that it’s from Chile. Would absolutely buy and drink again.
